Families

Building a Family-Friendly Salt Lake City

A thriving city needs to welcome families of all shapes and sizes. If we want a well-rounded, diverse community, we must make Salt Lake City more family-friendly. That means focusing on housing affordability, building family sized housing, safe streets, access to parks, and the amenities that make neighborhoods great places to raise kids. Strong families build strong communities, and I’m dedicated to making that a reality.

Schools

Supporting Our Students and Public Education

Last year, Salt Lake City closed 4 elementary schools. The School District has projected declining enrollment every single year for the next decade. Salt Lake City’s future depends on strong schools, and that means building a better relationship with the school district to understand and address these trends. Together, we can ensure that our schools remain vibrant hubs of learning and opportunity for all children in the city.

Housing

Building a Livable Salt Lake City

Salt Lake City is growing, and it’s time to meet the moment with bold, pro-housing policies. I believe in form-based zoning to encourage vibrant, walkable neighborhoods that work for everyone. Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) are an important tool to create more affordable housing options while maintaining the character of our community. Most importantly, we must focus on building more family sized housing across the city to ensure every resident has a place to call home.

Homelessness

Compassion Through Action

Allowing people to live on the street is neither compassionate nor sustainable. A critical component of this is building a new mental health facility to support unsheltered individuals with severe mental health needs who pose a threat to themselves or to others. We need to help our unsheltered neighbors by a creating a centralized campus for services. And lastly, SLC has not focused enough on drug enforcement and addiction recovery.

Transportation

A City That Moves for Everyone

Salt Lake City should be a place where it’s safe and easy to get around—no matter how you choose to travel. That means investing in better bike infrastructure and expanded public transit options that are reliable and accessible. By prioritizing sustainable transportation, we can reduce congestion, improve air quality, and create a city that works for people, not just cars. However, we have to remember the reality that we all have cars and getting rid of them entirely is not a viable path in the short term.

Parks and Public Lands

Preserving and Expanding Our Green Spaces

Our parks and public lands are the heart of Salt Lake City, and we need to protect and enhance them for future generations. I will work to improve our city parks while ensuring they remain clean, safe, and accessible for everyone. Before spending millions on new projects, we must focus on maintaining and improving existing infrastructure. Additionally, I’m committed to improving our trail network, making our city more connected and outdoor-friendly for all residents.
